This is a reprint of a presentation made by slave owner Willie Lynch in 1712 introducing an "innovative" new business management scheme that was so powerful that it's effects remain with us today.
Gentlemen:
I greet you here on the bend of the James River in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and twelve. First, I shall thank you, the gentlemen of the colony of Virginia for bringing me here. I am here to help you solve some of your problems with slaves.
Your invitation reached me on my modest plantation in the West Indies where I have experimented with some of the newest and still the oldest methods for control of slaves. Ancient Rome would envy us if my program is implemented. As our boat sailed south on the James River, named for our illustrious King, whose version of our Bible we cherish, I saw enough to know that your problem is not unique. While Rome used cords of wood as crosses for standing human bodies along its old highways in great numbers, you are here using the tree and the rope on occasion.
I caught the whiff of a dead slave hanging from a tree a couple of miles back. You are not only losing valuable stock by hangings, you are having uprisings, slaves are running away, your crops are sometimes left in the field too long for maximum profit, you suffer occasional fires, your animals are killed... Gentlemen, you know what your problems are. I do not need to elaborate, I am not here to enumerate your problems, I am here to introduce you to a method of solving them.
In my bag here, I have a fool-proof method for controlling your black slaves.
I guarantee every one of you that, if installed correctly, it will control the slaves for at least 300 years. My method is simple and members of your family or any overseer can use it.
I have outlined a number of differences among the slaves and I take these differences and make them bigger. I use fear, distrust, and envy for control purposes. These methods have worked on my modest plantation in the West Indies and it will work throughout the South. Take this simple list of differences, think about them.
On the top of my list is "Age" but it is there only because it starts with an "A". The second is "Color", or shade. Then there is intelligence, size, sex, size of the plantation, status on the plantation, attitude of the owner,whether the slaves live in the valley, on a hill, East, West, North, South, have fine or coarse hair or is tall or short.
Now that you have a list of these differences, I shall give you an outline of action, but before that, I shall asure you that distrust is stronger than trust and envy is stronger than adulation, respect or admiration.
The black slave, after receiving this indoctrination, shall carry on and will become self-refueling and self-generating for hundreds of years, maybe thousands.
Don't forget, you must pitch the old black versus the young black male. You must use the dark-skinned slaves versus the light-skinned slaves and the light-skinned slaves against the dark-skinned slaves. You must also have your white servants and overseers distrust all Blacks, but it is necessary that your slaves trust and depend on us. They must love, respect, and trust only us.
Gentlemen, these kits are your keys to control, use them. Have your wives and children use them, never miss opportunity. My plan is guaranteed, and the good thing about this plan is that if used intensely for one year, the slaves themselves will remain perpetually distrustful.

Racists use fear, distrust, and envy for control purposes. In reality, they have no real power or control.
I, Willie B. Phree, use honesty, effort, courage, introspection and pride to consistently know reality, to remove the parasites and leeches from my life to be free. These methods have worked in my own modest community and it works throughout the Civilization of the Universe.
Take this simple list of "contents of character", think about them.
On the top of my list is "Individualistic" but it is there only because it starts with an "I". The second is "Objectivity", or real. Then there are the actions that take conscious and willful effort of all individuals to obtain: honesty, self-control, self-responsibility, productive effort, courage, dynamic persistence and efficient use of time, these cause one to have happy emotions, NOT the uncontrollable characteristics and features of one's body and natural emotions of one's mind that does not deliver any of the above. Only actions beget emotions.
Now that you have a list of these characteristics, I shall give you an outline of action, but before that, I shall assure you that honesty is stronger than deception, innocence is stronger than false guilt, pride is stronger than envy and a rational self-interest with self-discipline is stronger than sacrifice and altruism.
Action #1. Integrate all known relevant facts into their correct and full context to integrate and know reality.
Action #2. Remove irrational and destructive thoughts from your mind by watching those thoughts. They have no power and will disappear. While at the same time, insert rational and productive thoughts to be free and happy.
Action #3. Remove irrational and destructive individuals from your life so that they will not harm you. While at the same time, surround yourself with those you want to emulate to be free and happy.
Action #4. Competitively create and freely exchange rational values for yourself and others to reflect upon which will cause rationally happy thoughts, actions and emotions.
The human mind, after receiving this, shall carry on and will become self-refueling and self-generating forever.
Ladies & Gentleman, these are your keys to be free and happy, use them. Have your husbands, wives and children use them, never miss opportunity. My plan is guaranteed, and the good thing about this plan is that if used intensely for one year, the obvious irrationalities that are the most destructive will be replaced with the subtle and less destructive, you will remain perpetually competent and productive, thus happy and free.
